Display cabinets for your special occasion crockery

We are all very protective of our special occasion plates and mugs, we tend to hide them away at the back of the cupboard so they don’t accidently get used, scratched or broken.

They are hidden away so well, sometimes we forget to get them out on the special occasions. A great way to show off your shiny, expensive, rare or even quirky set of plates is in a display cabinet.

Display cabinets can vary from expensive to budget, depending on your price limit. They come in a variety of designs, so can blend in easily with your current kitchen design, or even stand out if you try a vibrant coloured display case.

Once you have chosen the display cabinet that suits your needs and of course your kitchen, you can then have the fun of arranging the display. Plate display frames really set off your collection by allowing your plate’s face to be upright on show.

How to Install Tile Trim

Tiles are one of the most preferred types of flooring and serve useful purposes making the walls in wet areas like bathrooms. They last a long time and come in a wide variety of designs so you will be able to find one that you like. One important aspect of tile flooring that a person should never forget is the tile trim. This is very important in covering the exposed edges of the tiles preventing them from cracking or chipping damages. This ensures that your tiles will serve you for a long time. A metal tile trim is a popular choice and will help you separate the tiles from another type of flooring as well as smooth where the tiles meet the walls of the room. Proper installation is very important for the trims to serve their purpose. To be noted is that planning for installation of the tiles should be done at the same time when planning on tile trims installation.

What are your options?

There are several materials that are used to make tile trims. They include plastic, aluminium and stainless steel. Metal tile trim is a particularly great choice because they give the tiles a modern finish and will last a long time. They are useful in for both wall and floor tile installations as well. If you choose metal trim you need to ensure that they are installed properly for them to serve their purpose.

Purchasing the tile trims

The first step to take before installation is the purchase of the trims. In order to know how much you will need you need to measure the length of the area to be covered. Measure the entire length on all sides then look for trims that are of the total length. Keep the data on the measurements of each edge as you will need it in cutting the trim. Also, determine whether the trims will be placed at the base or corners before buying. When you go out there look for what pleases you in terms of quality and aesthetic appeal.

The actual installation

Once you have the tile trims with you the first step is to cut them. If the trims will be used on the wall and the base you need to cut the edges at a 45-degree angle. Place the tiles trim in a mitre box and secure one side using the device’s clamps. Use a trim cutter or hack saw to cut the trim into several pieces each measuring the length for an edge.

After cutting, mark the area where the trims will be fitted with a piece of chalk. Line the marked area with strong glue then press the tile trims onto the glued surface. Allow to dry.

Once dry, check the trims and fill spaces with grout then allow to dry. You can then apply the sealer on top of the grout and allow drying.

The area is now ready for the tile installation. So be sure to get the measurements right and know the number of tiles that should fit into an area perfectly before starting to install tile trims.

Smoothie makers

A smoothie maker is a brilliant appliance for those who are looking to start the day right with their ‘five a day’. With a smoothie maker, you can simply blend up fresh fruit with juice or milk to make a morning, lunchtime or dinnertime smoothie. It’s very easy to make and a lot cheaper than buying smoothies off the shelf in your local supermarket. Don’t get us wrong, fruit is pretty expensive but if you were to buy your fruit in bulk and prepare 3 or 4 smoothies ready for the week ahead, you’ll save money and a get a fresher and healthier smoothie this way. Just remember though, fruit smoothies are packed with lots of natural sugars, and even though they’re ‘natural’ they can be fattening and actually rather calorific, so you shouldn’t go overboard with citrus fruits. Adding vegetables can balance the flavour and make it healthier too like spinach.
